The Colt 45's beat Sulphur Springs 14-8 in the World Series final to be champions of the Spring 2009 season. Wilson Powell hit the first ever Colt 45's home run in the final to spur a come from behind victory. Great job Colts!

The Colt 45's are in first place heading into the seventh and final week of DET league play. The Colt 45's finish league play against the Hawkins Ambassadors. Winning both games will ensure a first place league finish and give the Colt 45's a strong entry into the DET World Series.

Big Bambino Tournament Rescheduled

The Colt 45's will be playing in the Big Bambino Tournament this weekend after last weekend's rain out. The tournament has been moved to The Parks at Texas Star in Euless, TX. Please speak to Amy Kirkland about hotel accommodations.

The tournament bracket has the Colts playing a double header starting at 3pm on Saturday versus the Mansfield Phillies and the Dallas Patriots 9u.

We have decided not to play in this weekend's tournament due to Hurricane Ike. Several reasons were considered but the main thing is that we all stay safe and off the roads during the storm. There will be another chance to be tournament champions!

Fundraiser Raffle

The Colt 45's are raising funds to help pay for tournament entry by raffling a new Remington 700 SPS 30-06 rifle. Tickets are $5 each and the draw will take place on October 15, 2008.

TCS Big Bambino Tournament

We are registered to play in the Triple Crown Sports Big Bambino Tournament on September 13-14. The games will be at the Big League Dreams Sports Park in Mansfield, TX.

The $25M Sports Park, which opened in March 2008, features small-scale replicas of current major league ballparks (New York's Yankee Stadium, Boston's Fenway Park, Rangers Ballpark in Arlington and Chicago's Wrigley Field), and four replicas of former ballparks (The Polo Grounds and Ebbets Field in New York, Crosley Field in Cincinnati, and Sportsman's Park in St. Louis).

UPDATE:
Amy Kirkland has reserved rooms at the La Quinta for both Fri and Sat night just in case anyone is going both nights. Once we know exactly what time we play on Saturday we can decide whether or not we want to keep the Fri reservations. The game times should be posted at 7:00 on Wednesday night. The rate she got is $84.15 a night which is good. She can cancel anyone's room if they want to make other arrangements. As of now everyone has a room. Just let Amy know by Thursday if you want to cancel your room. Amy needs contact info for Tye, Nate and Wilson.

Spring Hill Tournament Champions

By going 2-0 in pool play and 2-0 in bracket play, the Colt 45's won the Spring Hill "Hooked on Baseball" tournament on Saturday. Strong play by all team members allowed the team to go unbeaten in the tournament. The Tournament Final was a hard fought game against host team Spring Hill Horns. The game went 6 innings with the Colt 45's edging out a close 5-4 victory.

The Colt 45's entered the Brady Barton Tournament held in Carthage, TX on Aug. 2-3. The team came in second place with an overall record of 2-2.

I wish I could have met my great grandfather (Judge Wesley Welsh) who signed on with the St. Louis Cardinals as a pitcher in the 1930's. His pro career ended just as it was beginning because of a car wreck.
